From Dreaming to Daring

Part of my journey to be kind to myself is fulfilling my dreams. Things I’ve always wanted to do, learn, and experiment. Many of these dreams are from my childhood. I realized that many are still accessible. I can still learn and experiment. It is never, ever too late. Okay, my dream of being a Prima ballerina may not be in the cards anymore, but still, most of them remain. Stay with me 😊.

Coming back to these dreams of mine. Nothing is stopping me anymore. No more excuses about my Mom not having the money to pay for lessons. I can pay for myself now. No more excuses for not having the time. Seriously, who does? Let’s swap Netflix for learning a little, right? NO more excuses. So, I’ve decided that the things I long for, I will work for. My journey may be long, but who really cares if I have fun in the process right? And, who’s waiting? Really?

Anything that had to do with Art I wanted to do. I would sing in my childhood basement, relentlessly taping myself. I would dance. I would act. I wanted to go to performing arts school for ballet when I was 10, but the money was scarce in my family. I wanted to learn musical instruments (not one, many!). I also wanted to go to acting school, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. All this hiding because I was the least confidant girl I knew. And to top it all off, incredibly shy. All these years later, I still long for the same things. Lots of it has to do with my daughter. They resurfaced with her. By her choices, she is making me revisit these magical places. These dreams I once had, she now has. I have not influenced her. It’s all her. She didn’t know my longings, not many knew. I am voicing them now because I am embracing who I am and making space for my desires. This is a part of me. A part worth to explore.

I have decided to bring my dreams to life. I will take the time and learn the skills I want to learn. I have started piano lessons this Fall. It is bliss and peace all in one. I have very fond memories of sitting next to my Grammy on her piano bench watching and listening to her play…wishing I could…it was magic to me. Now, I feel like a little girl every time I sit at my piano bench. I am doing this with discipline, but no force. Having fun is always my main focus.

The funny thing is, my Mom had very similar dreams. By choosing to explore my dreams, I want to show that forgotten or unfulfilled dreams can come alive again. It’s never too late.  By doing this I will be showing my children that there is no limit to when, where, or how you do things. If and when you are ready, in your own way and on your own time, you can fly.

My goal is to start one thing at a time. Once my piano lessons feel comfortable, I will start something else. The idea is to build, to do something that really matters to me. Something that puts me in a blissful state. Something that uplifts my spirit. Something for me and me alone. Living life surrounded by things we are passionate about can only bring magic to one’s life. For me, it’s the only way to be in order to shine within.

I invite you to do the same. Your life will change for the better. Mine certainly has.

Be your life’s creator. Make space in your life for what you love, for what makes you smile, for what makes you happy.
